ABOUT COLIN & CALUM

“Hi, I’m Colin Taylor, and I’ve been a stonemason since 2007.

I trained and worked with Historic Scotland on various projects throughout the North of Scotland.

Within my time training as a stonemason I won various masonry awards, including 1st place in the Scotland and Northern Ireland Skill Build competition and apprentice of the year twice in 2008 and 2010.

In 2010 I travelled to Malta and worked with Heritage Malta for two weeks, which was an amazing opportunity for me to see and use different ideas and methods. ”

“Hi, I’m Calum Macdonald, and I’ve been a stonemason since 2010.

I completed my training with Historic Scotland, working on a range of conservation projects within the Highlands and Islands.

I was delighted to receive apprentice of the year in 2012, as well as winning the Scottish Inter College Stonemasonry Skills competition in Stirling. Winning this competition resulted in me travelling to Norway, spending time at Trondheim Cathedral and networking with stonemasons from around the world. The trip provided me with the opportunity to develop my knowledge and skills further and to see how conservation is carried out in other countries.

Stonemasonry has become a real passion for Colin and I over the years, and we are keen to help preserve Scotland’s rich history and beauty through the conservation of our old buildings.’’
